How to Use the “Preview Pane” or “Details Pane” in File Explorer (Windows Explorer) (Windows 8)

In Windows 8 “Windows Explorer” (where you view the list of files on your computer) is now called “File Explorer” and it looks a little different. On the right side you have the option of seeing the “Details Pane”, the “Preview Pane” or turning both of them off. These settings are in the “View” menu (or “View” tab).

How to Turn the Ribbon on/off in File Explorer (Windows 8)

In the new “File Explorer” (previously called “Windows Explorer), where you view the list of files/folders on your computer, there is now a “Ribbon” filled with commands just like the Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.). You can turn the “Ribbon” on or off depending on your preference. There are two ways to turn the “Ribbon” on or off.

If you use folders to store e-mail, and you want to have instant access to e-mail stored in certain folders, you will want to take a look at your “Mail Folders to Push” settings. This video is only applicable to those who have NOT updated their iPhone/iPad to iOS 7 or 7.1 Please see additional videos for iOS 7 and higher. By default your iPad/iPhone is set up to sync 3 days of mail. This means you can only see mail you received in the last 3 days in your inbox or any of your e-mail folders. You will want to change this setting. We recommend you use the maximum setting of “1 Month” so that you can see as many messages as possible in your inbox and folders. This process will work the same on iPad and iPhone.

How to Filter a Folder by Read/Unread E-mails (Outlook 2013, 2010 & 2007)

If you need to filer a folder by Read or Unread e-mails it can be done by changing the “View” settings. In this example we want to delete all Unread e-mails in the “Deleted Items” folder. This can be used for any folder in Outlook. This process will work the same in Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013.
